Joey R. Smith began his professional career with the Houston Ballet at the age of nineteen. After a move to New York, he danced with the Feld Ballet, went away to dance with The Washington Ballet and returned to dance with the New York City Opera and the Metropolitan Opera. He has served on the Board of Directors of the American Guild of Musical Artists, AGMA, and in 1995 was appointed to a full-time teaching position at LaGuardia where he choreographs the school’s annual musical.
